Five Digital Marketing Trends
As we kick off the new year, let’s take a look at what digital marketing trends will lead the industry. None of the things on this list are new, but are trends that continue to grow over the past year or two. Awareness and understanding of these trends will help you as you build and adjust your digital marketing strategy.
Content marketing is no longer foreign to most companies, but having a calculated and documented strategy for content still rests with the minority. As people continue to see the positive response to custom content, they will work to increase their focus on creating content that their readers want and optimizing it for search engines.
Marketing automation continues to grow as a result of smarter platforms. Right now you can set up an email campaign with different responses sent based on how people interact with your initial email. For example, if you send an email with a link to a video and a handful of people don’t click to watch it, you can set a follow up message to send with a text-based blog post instead. Additionally, on-site automation will continue to improve—offering individuals personalized experiences on websites they visit based on how they interact and engage with the site.
The trend continues. In November last year, Google began creating separate search result indexes for desktop and mobile with attention and updates being given to the mobile index first and more often. That is because a growing number of people use smartphones as their primary search devices. Conversion rate for mobile has remained low though, so websites will continue to need to optimize for mobile and cater to those users first.
Smart watches sales have declined recently,* but a lot of people still use them. In addition, augmented reality goggles continue to increase in popularity. Companies that can create specific apps or advertisements for these products will have a leg up on their competition who ignore them.
Internet of Things
The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the ever increasing number of connected products that collect data and can be controlled by external devices like your smartphone. Examples include thermostats, lights, security systems, and much more. Expect the number to keep on growing as we progress through 2017 as well.
As you can see, technology continues to advance and impact how we go about our lives. In order to stay ahead of the curve, business owners need to embrace these digital marketing trends and adapt their strategies to fit them as they can.
