Hi, my name’s Jonathan with Valorous Circle, and today I want to talk to you about domain names. Obviously, most of you know at this point, a domain name is a name that represents your company or your organization that you buy that directs people to your website. In our. Valoris circle.com or valoris web design.com.

A lot of times people say, okay, I know I can buy my domain name, but what do I do to make sure that it’s protected? Because that domain name is an asset of your organization. There’s a couple simple steps we recommend you take. First and foremost, don’t pay someone else to ride. Register your domain name.

It’s easy to do on your own. You can go to a company like GoDaddy, or Network Solutions or one-on-one, a host of companies that are. And buy your domain name generally for anywhere from about 10 to $30 a year. It’s not expensive, but you wanna buy that domain name yourself, using your credit card, using your account information, and your business information because if anything were to ever happen to that domain name down the road, obviously it can dramatically and negatively impact your business.

If you’ve purchased that domain name under your business name and you’re using company resources to pay for it, you can be assured that you can reclaim that in the future if it’s ever necess. The other question people ask is, what about a long domain name? Should I get a really short one with just some letters or dashes?

And the answer to that is no. 10 years ago, yeah, people, people were concerned about having a domain name that had too many letters. Might be too hard to read, but let me give you just a really simple example. We at Valor Circle could choose the website, VC Web. Not terribly hard to remember, but Valorous Circle is probably easier cuz that’s our company.

Or Valorous web design. Even if your company name’s a long name, it’s easier for a person to remember that name than it is to remember some form or some type of abbreviation for it. So buy your domain names. We do recommend you buy D, various versions of your domain name. If your domain name or your company name is easy to misspell, buy some alternative spellings.

Again, we’re talking inexpensive. Redirect those domain names to your website and protect your intellectual property. If you’ve got any more questions about domain names or what you know you should be doing, feel free to give us a call at Valorous Circle. Thanks.
